ASEAN-US Values Upgrading to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership

PHNOM PENH: ASEAN and the United States have reached a new stage of their relationship, upgrading relations to the level of a comprehensive strategic partnership today.

According to the Secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Spokesperson of the 40th and 41st ASEAN Summits, Kung Phoak, the strengthening of this comprehensive partnership will enable ASEAN and the United States to reap many benefits and provide mutual support.

The agreement between ASEAN leaders and US President Joe Biden was finalized during the ASEAN-US Summit at the Sokha Hotel in Phnom Penh on Saturday evening, 12 November 2022.

The intention to enhance relations to the level of a comprehensive strategic partnership was raised by ASEAN and US leaders at the Special US-ASEAN Summit in Washington D.C. in May 2022.
